Salobrena is a unique town in a spectacular location with a rich history and a fantastic beach.
The old town is built around a huge rock formation which slopes down to a long, beautiful unspoilt beach. At the top of the town, overlooking the area below is an incredible Moorish castle built during the 10th century. Salobrena is commonly referred to as the jewel of the Costa Tropical.
This sub tropical paradise lies a mere 35 - 40 minutes south of Granada city and the Sierra Nevada snow resort is just over one hour away. This is the place to come if you want to stay on the beach and snowboard or ski during the day (see our Snowboarding Spain page).
The beaches around the area are fantastic for year round holidays. Salobrena is a lively town with a great selection of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained on a night out.
Sunshine Breaks have a choice of holiday accommodation in Salobrena. Several of the holiday homes you can book are located in the heart of the old town and you can also book several other fabulous homes in the area. We cater for all budgets whether you want a one bed apartment or you need a grand villa set on the surrounding hillside.
A few of the houses you can stay in are set in the square next to the old town hall which nowadays is a local museum. This is the most elegant part of the old town and a great place for you to wander around. You can explore the narrow streets of this area which are filled with flowers and plants. Many of the homes we use have terraces which give you amazing views of the surrounding area which you have see to fully appreciated. You can also stay in other homes which have their own private courtyard.
As you turn 360 degrees you will take in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the sugar cane fields, sub tropical orchards, the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, the stunning beach, the white painted houses of the old town and the Salobrena Castle itself.
Salobrena also has the enviable claim of being the warmest and sunniest part of Europe during the winter with temperatures during the day averaging 17 or 18 degrees.
As well as the obvious water activities, scuba diving is growing in popularity here. An artificial reef was built to maintain and build up the marine aqua life around the coast and this has brought about some amazing results. Golfing is another sport being well catered for in the area with a driving range, a 9 hole course and plans for the expansion of another 18 hole course nearby.
Walking is the best way to make use of the many paths around the area or you could easily get around on a mountain bike if you want to explore further afield.
With the added bonus of two international airports (Granada and Malaga) close by, Salobrena really is a wonderful place to visit and very easy to get to. Come and discover its charms with Sunshine Breaks.
