Walking & Mountain Biking ... Casa Escocia is the perfect place for those wishing to go walking or mounting biking. Staying here allows you instant access from the house directly onto tracks leading high into the Alpujarra and Sierra Nevada. The GR7 - E4 long distance walking route passes right in front of the house. We provide transport to take you to various drop off and pick up points around the area. Marvel at the stunning scenery surrounding you as you discover the delights of this region. This is the place to be if you want to immerse yourself in the mountain environment.

Mulhacen ... At 3482 metres (11,420 ft) this is the highest mountain on mainland Spain. The high point of the impressive Sierra Nevada mountain range is a challenging outing and RoXcool will guide you by foot or even by mountain bike to the top of Mulhacen. This can be done in one day but if you are are going to go up that high you may as well make the most of it and take in a few of the summits whilst overnighting in one of the high Mountain Lodges or refugios. Sunshine Breaks can organise all of this for you so you can concentrate on the task in hand. Trips up Mulhacen can be done year round, contact us for futher details.

Climbing ... RoXcool provide instruction and guiding on the best crags and cliffs in Granada. From beginners to hard core rock gods looking for new routes we can provide a safe and adventurous option. Always on the search for new rock and new routes to put up our staff here know all the good climbing spots in the Granada region. If your staying at Casa Escocia then RoXcool staff will pick you up and transport you to the best places to climb depending on your experience and ability. We can provide you with all the equipment you'll need to have a fun and exciting day out or week long adventure.

Those who simply need a base may want to make use of our luxury accommodation in Granada city for fantastic climbing at the nearby Los Cahoros gorge. Or use our Salobrena beach home as a base to stay for great climbing on the cliffs at Motril which are only five minutes away. Staying at any of our Granada homes also allows easy access to various sites around the western Alpujarras.
 
If you are looking to put up new routes and have a willingness to wander and seek out good rock, then a stay at Casa Escocia would provide a great starting point to explore and discover the many untouched crags in the eastern Alpujarras.

Scrambling ... If rock climbing is a bit too much for you but you still want to get a real feel for a bit of exposure then perhaps one of the many local scrambles are more for you. RoXcool can guide you up some of the best routes in Granada. These are full on adventures in themselves and the scenery around you as you make your way up will have you in awe.

Gorge Walks ... Another RoXcool adventure option. Cliff has discovered several fantastic gorges in the area which are great fun days out. These are ideal as a family adventure for those traveling to Las Alpujarras with outgoing kids, although hopefully they'll have a good head for heights!!

Caving ... An underground cave system in nearby La Contraviesa provides another great day out. This trip starts with an exhilarating 75 ft abseil followed by a 3 hour round trip through the underground cavern. RoXcool will guide you through the caves if you think you can handle it!!

Horse Riding ... takes place using our local stables located high in the mountains. You can choose from a few hours to a full weeks riding no matter what time of the year. Horse riding in the snow is a special experience in the mountains here. Salobrena also has stables nearby providing Horse Riding as an option for those staying there.

Dog Sledding ... this is another new activity run locally by the same people who own the mountain stables that we use for the Horse Riding. They have been running Dog Sledding throughout the winter months for a long time now but have recently changed skis for wheels to make summer trips possible.

Paragliding ... Those who have their own equipment may want to make use of a self catering beach home which has good access to a variety of take off sites around the region. We can supply you with accommodation in Salobrena and staying here gives you the option of chilling out on the beach for a day or two in between flying. See our Beach Breaks page.

For further information on Paragliding in the Granada region or if you are a beginner and want to learn to paraglide we can recommend that you contact Carlos Gonzalez and Angie Thomas at Horizonte Vertical. They run an excellent professional outfit and have been operating as a company in Las Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada since 1999.

Snowboarding ... In this region it is possible to snowboard in the morning and laze on the beach in the afternoon! See our Snowboarding Spain page for details.

Scuba Diving ... is a popular pastime in the Med. Staying in Salobrena you have instant access to the sea and there is a specialist dive school here which can supply equipment and lessons if you require these. An artificial reef was built just off the coast of Salobrena a couple of years ago and the sea life surrounding this is said to be amazing.

Adventure Racers ... training for an event such as the Marathon de Sable or a cross adventure series? Ensure you are in top condition by combining heat and altitude training. A warm dry climate and heights of over 11,000 feet (around 3,500 metres) make this an ideal location. From Casa Escocia you have access to the Sierra Nevada national park and with 14 peaks over 10,000 feet (3000 metres) in height. There are few places which are as easy to get to and yet provide terrain and conditions like this. Sunshine Breaks can provide you with great training route options and can help with drop offs and pick ups for a varied training program. Example Itinery ...

• Sat - Travel to Spain, transfer to your base for the week (Casa Escocia), enjoy an evening meal and plan the coming week.
• Sun - Drop off at a high mountain pass and cycle back to Casa Escocia, descending over 4000 feet. In the afternoon relax at the house or wander around the local village.
• Mon - Horse Riding in Las Alpujarras. We will take you to the mountain stables where you can have a lesson followed by a two or a four hour horse ride.
• Tues - Walking in Las Alpujarras, we will explore the local villages following the GR7 route. We can crack on at a good pace to make the most of the day or go at a leisurely stroll sampling the hospitality and tapas of the village bars on route.
• Wed - Have a go at Caving and explore a local underground cavern. Lots of excitement and family fun as you enter the unknown.
• Thurs - Have a go at climbing and abseiling or go on an adventurous Gorge Walk.
• Fri - You can't really come to Spain without going to the beach at least once so we will take you down the coast or if you want you can simply relax on the terrace at Casa Escocia. In the evening we will take you into the village for some tapas and a farewell drink. Alternatively we can organise a trip into Granada city where you can visit the Alhambra palace, make use of the cities shops or sample the delights of the many cafes and bars.
• Sat - Transfer back to the airport.
